The Luckham company - Oakland Office

In 1979 the little single family house next to our shop was gutted in a fire started by children playing with matches. Familiar story. The landlord owner wanted to sell rather than rebuild and a deal was struck. Six months later we had added to the front and rear of the existing building, removed most of the other interior walls and created a comfortable office.

The Pertec computer was state of the art at the time with 64K of memory and two 8" floppy disks. The first hard drives hadn't come on the scene yet. In fact, very few small businesses even had computers at that time!

Reception

The reception desk was made in our shop next door. Very convenient!

Reception

The end of the reception desk curved to create a pleasant waiting area.

Main Office

The main office provided four large workstations for estimators and project staff. A large conference room was located at the very back of the space, and opened to an enclosed patio with lush landscaping and a fountain.

Computer Station

Since all of the cabinet work and furnishings were custom fabricated it was easy to design and build in a special station for the then very advanced computer. The dot matrix printer to the left was quite noise until it was enclosed in a sound attenuating custom cabinet.

Owner's Office

Besides ample work tables for drafting and plan reading Larry Luckham's office included this custom desk.

The work tables were rarely this clear of plans. Most of the photographs throughout the office are of completed projects.
